Rod Olson

Senior Director of Controls Engineering

Rod Olson is the Senior Director of Controls Engineering at the Heating and Air Conditioning Division (HAD) of Mitsubishi Electric US Inc. (MEUS). He manages the Controls Engineering team within the Solution Development Center to develop new controls and accessories to deliver new products from concept to market. He’s responsible for meeting department goals and objectives and confirming compliance with documented company policies and procedures. He ensures that hardware and software are designed and developed to the highest quality standards for its lifespan. His role entails collaborating with product planning teams and factories to identify potential issues and providing guidance regarding new product trends, applications and specification improvements. He plans and defines Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control needs, feasibility, scope and impact.

Olson has been with the Cooling & Heating Division since December 2014. Prior to joining MEUS, he held technical and management positions with Ericsson, Segovia and Barber-Colman/Robertshaw. He was exposed to HVAC from an early age since his family was in the HVAC contracting business. He was also one of the key developers of the Network 8000 commercial HVAC control systems while at Barber-Colman/Robertshaw.

Olson holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rockford College, Rockford, Illinois and studied electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
